Floyd may be dead. Long live Pink Floyd. BBC reports that Richard Wright died of cancer at 65. It is a sad day for prog rock but Wright would live on to the tunes of Echoes and The great gig in the sky.

I am reading “A house for Mr. Biswas” – a book written by V. S. Naipaul set in Trinidad & Tobago in 1920s. Interesting book, the protagonist, Mr. Biswas is portrayed as an incompetent buffoon and reminded me of my friend Biswas (full name to be not revealed, but my EP class-mates would know). Anyhow, [...]

Violin is a great instrument. There is something about it, something in the shrill noise, the crying notes, the drawn out sound of the violin that makes it poignant. More so than any other instrument i have heard. Others of the family, the viola, or the Cello have a stronger bass tone and so while they [...]

Starting today the race to the finish has begun. It is a race to get a great internship as soon as possible and start having fun. In that quest, and for need of better planning, i am spending time studying global economics. It is an interesting subject and while the theory covered so far is previously familiar, [...]
Ae Ajnabi – O stranger: Translation for a beautiful song.

On a translation spree, I have attempted a poetical translation to this beautiful poetry by Gulzaar sa’ab. Again, English doesn’t do justice to the poetry; but oh so true:
Main yahan tukdon mein jee raha hoon
Tu kahin tukdon mein jeen rahi hai
Roz roz resham si hawa aate jaate [...]

A poor attempt to translate the feelings behind this beautiful ghazal by Mirza Ghalib. English cannot capture the intricacies of Urdu.
